Smart Dubai sponsors participation of Emirates Digital Association for Women at Grace Hopper Conference 2017

Smart Dubai Office sponsored the participation of Emirates Digital Association for Women at the Grace Hopper Conference 2017, held annually in Orlando, USA, to highlight the potential of women in computing, technology and artificial intelligence.

The Smart Dubai Office sponsorship is part of its continued efforts to highlight the achievements of Emirati women, especially in international forums, in addition to the Office's efforts to empower Emirati women and provide all support needed to develop their skills in the latest tech innovations globally.

"The continued progress and development by the UAE women at local and international levels is the result of the continuous support and guidance of our wise leadership, which aims to raise the status of women in society,” said Dr Aisha Bint Butti Bin Bishr, Director General of the Smart Dubai Office.

She added: “The UAE Emirati Women's Day, launched by Her Highness Sheikha Fatima Bint Mubarak, President of the General Women's Union, Supreme Chairwoman of the Family Development Foundation, and Chairwoman of Motherhood and Childhood Supreme Council, is celebrated on 28 August in recognition and respect for the role of women in building the UAE society and her pivotal role in the overall development of the nation.”

She added: "At Smart Dubai Office, we underline our commitment to provide all support to Emirati women, and work to elevate them, increase their educational achievement within and outside the country, and enhance their vital role in building the country.”

Shamsa Saleh, Chief Executive Officer of Dubai women establishment, lauded the efforts of Smart Dubai to empower Emirati women in the technical field and for sponsoring the participation of Emirates Digital Association for Women at Grace Hopper Conference 2017.

“The participation in the global technical forum for women will sharpen the skills and capabilities of Emirati women. It complements the ongoing efforts to strengthen knowledge and raise employee productivity in all sectors, underlining the UAE’s pioneering steps regionally and internationally in Smart Government, led by the vision of our wise leadership,” she said.

She added that the initiative by Smart Dubai is in line with the strategic objectives of Dubai Women’s Establishment to enhance the participation of Emirati women in all sectors of the economy, and continue their active contribution to sustainable development.

“It also enhances their leadership competencies through strategic partnerships with the public and private sector. The representation of Emirati women in international forums will improve the skills of women leaders and help them make a qualitative leap, while increasing the participation of Emirati women in various scientific and technological fields.”

Shamaa Almigini from the Emirates Digital Association for Women said "The Emirates Digital Association for Women seeks to support women by organising and providing innovative and diverse programmes to build the capacity of its members in the field of information systems and technology. I am an engineering student from Khalifa University and I participated in this programme with five of the Association’s distinguished members to represent UAE at this conference and benefit from the workshops, panel discussions and exhibitions that introduce the latest in technology and information systems. "

The Grace Hopper Conference focuses on information technology, computing, entrepreneurship and women's role in emerging technology projects and technology investment, as well as highlighting their engagement in computer science, industry and the higher education sector.

The conference will host distinguished scientists and researchers from all over the world. There will be special sessions where distinguished women will speak, as well as a series of workshops, seminars, introductory lectures and other activities related to technology and the latest findings of modern science.

The Grace Hopper conference is the world's largest annual technical gathering for women and one of the most important conferences dealing with women and their experience in the field of computer and information technology since 1994. The conference hosts a large number of women leaders in computing and information technology from all the world to discuss the latest scientific findings and to provide advice to women in the fields of computers.
