Happiness is a Journey, not a Destination
At Smart Dubai, we are committed to continually evaluating how our smart initiatives and programs contribute to our vision, to make Dubai the happiest city on earth.
We recognise that happiness is a journey taken by individuals. Our efforts to transform Dubai in the happiest city rest in the hands of each of us, and our personal commitment to improving our own happiness, thereby impacting the happiness of many.
On this International Day of Happiness, I urge each of us to take this opportunity to focus on the small changes we can make in our daily lives, to enrich our own happiness, increasing the spread of happiness through our communities and across our city, contributing to making Dubai the happiest city on earth.
- Recognise moments of happiness in the day-to-day
Take a moment each day to recognise the small things that make you happy. Recognising each small moment of happiness increases the joy in your daily life, even in times or stress or sorrow.
- Make time to do what makes you happy
Set aside time each day to do something that makes you happy. Dedicate time each day to your happiness - whether exercising or reading a book, talking to a friend or playing with your family - to enhance your overall sense of life satisfaction and wellbeing.
- Commit to positive relationships
The people in our lives contribute significantly to our happiness and well-being — up to 40% of our happiness at any given time. Focus on fostering positive relationships with your family, friends and colleagues to increase your own happiness and contribute to the happiness of others as well.
- Forge meaningful connections
Technology is a remarkable tool for deepening our connections with each other. Take advantage of the tools in your daily life that make it easier to spend time and share stories with your friends, relatives and colleagues to forge meaningful connections to improve your happiness.
- Focus on creating value in your work
While at work, focus on the value that you are creating for others - rather monetary gain. Reflect on the value your work is creating for others - your customers or clients, your leadership or the general public - to elevate your sense of accomplishment and satisfaction at work, even in times of stress and urgent deadlines.
- Celebrate accomplishments of all sizes
Celebrate meaningful accomplishments often, in all aspects of life. Set goals for yourself and celebrate milestones along the way, as you commit to improving yourself and creating opportunities for happiness as you progress on your journey.
Remember that happiness is a journey, not a destination. Commit yourself to these first, small steps towards happiness, and begin your journey with us today.
Together, we can increase our daily happiness to contribute to making Dubai the happiest city on earth, spreading our happiness through our global community.
Our journey begins today.
