Thundermaps enables business and governments to crowdsource hazard locations and inform employees and residents that they may be in danger in real time. Governments and companies can then take corrective action to reduce risk and improve safety. Thundermaps received a $1.25m grant from the European Commission to help make Swedish cities smarter and safer, and have been conducting similar services for New Zealand.
Value for Dubai
Integration of Thundermaps into widely distributed apps like DubaiNow could enable Dubai to alert residents of incoming sand storms, accident-prone roads, and high tides at the beach. Furthermore, the Government could encourage private enterprise to use such an app to create a safer work environment, and avoid the numerous work related injuries that take place every year - approximately 85 in Dubai, 2014. Safety is fundamental to happiness, and this will help strengthen the foundation of Dubai’s ambition of becoming the happiest city on Earth.
