SMART MAJLIS INTRODUCED TO FACILITATE THE EXCHANGE OF IDEAS BETWEEN THE PEOPLE AND CITY LEADERS

In line with the Smart Dubai vision, the Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (DEWA) developed a comprehensive Smart Grid strategy with the aim to connect renewable energy sources and promote environmental initiatives.

In following the meaning of the word “Majlis”, translating to “Assembly” in English, Smart Majlis was created to build a platform for the people to engage with His Highness Sheikh Mohammed Bin Rashid Al Maktoum and his governing team, to share thoughts and ideas with the governing body. “Our target is to give all members of society the opportunity to attend our majlis and to present their ideas and comments, consult together and work hand in hand to promote the development process,” said Sheikh Mohammed within his launch speech.

The function of Smart Majlis is threefold: firstly, both, residents and visitors of Dubai, are welcomed to submit thoughts and ideas through the web portal. In return, every submission to the council is promised to be answered through the authorities within four working days. Secondly, feedback on public facilities can be given in form or writing or through picture uploads, and thirdly, regular brainstorming sessions between the council and the public will be held leveraging the combined thought power of Dubai: “Our goal is to make Dubai the world’s smartest and fastest developed city with the help of citizens, residents, visitors and Dubai fans,” Sheikh Mohammed further said.

Through the direct communication path between the public and the ruling council of Dubai, the Majlis is expected to create innovative ideas, transmit the feeling of engagement, belonging and being hear to the public, as well as expose the governing parties to the public response to initiatives, programs and services in Dubai.
