Throughout the 2015’s GITEX Technology Week holding company Meraas and e-commerce giant Alibaba announced the first tangible outputs of the Dubai-based joint technology venture Yvolv announced earlier this year, the realization of a big data and cloud computing centre in form of an open data centre, as well as the implementation of a mobile payment solution, which will be available across the MENA area.

The initial focus of the data centre will be on enterprise, small and medium enterprises, developers as well as the oil and gas and aviation sectors. The Dubai-based venture will specialise in application development, service-orientated architecture, testing, validation, citizenship e-services and Big Data operations with a special focus on analytics, revenue generation and payment solutions. In creating these services, the new venture will be aligned with the Smart Dubai dimensions of smart mobility, infrastructure and economy, which will culminate to better living conditions, while having environmental impact. Meraas group chairman His Excellency Abdulla Al Habbai said. “We strongly believe that the new company will alter the information technology landscape of the region”

While the initial focus will be on the technology venture, Meraas will leverage its development capabilities through the creation of a technology-oriented master-planned integrated community comprising of a Tier 3 Data Center, as well as hospitality, residential and commercial spaces, retail and food & beverage units. The newly-formed joint venture company will be an anchor tenant.
