Elon Musk launches Tesla in UAE

On the 12th of February, His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice-President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai launched the fifth edition of the World Government Summit in Dubai.

One of the esteemed guests, Elon Musk, CEO of Tesla Inc, announced at the World Government Summit that Tesla will begin selling it’s luxury electronic cars in Dubai. The announcements mark's Tesla’s first foray into the Middle East. Tesla has already begun accepting online orders for the Model S and Model X and plans to begin delivering to customers by July 2017. Prices start at Dhs275,000 for the Model S and Dhs344,000 for the Model X

In the meantime, Tesla is also setting up the necessary infrastructure in Dubai to ensure driving an electric car is as seamless as one based on fossil fuels. To make that possible, a service center is in development at Sheikh Zayed Road with a launch date to coincide with the first deliveries of Tesla vehicles to customers in July 2017. Moreover, Mr. Musk said, “We expect to invest tens of millions of dollars in the UAE for charging, service and support infrastructures. By next year, you’ll be able to travel anywhere in the GCC with an electric vehicle.” Tesla intends to nearly double the number of charging stations already in place, from 28 to 50 by the end of 2017.

His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum welcomed the establishment and opening of Tesla’s regional office in Dubai.
